Distant are the days
of the poet I left behind,
flexing her lilting muscle
into the depth of night.

Bouncing back from early tumbles
A blessing, some might say
A scrape rendered invisible 
A tear absorbed by flesh...

What lay before me
was an unparalleled gift—
This much was clear…

Eating up the moments one by one—
a brand new world for her to discover
a sea of memories for me to relive…

Canta corazón
he whispers, deaf to the discord
his voice engenders…

Tendrils weaving, clutching, gnawing
at the smothering embrace of dirt and grime
reaching for a beacon of light
to secure their place in space and time…

I type — It taunts
Begging me to spill
Remnants of the madness
Trapped in my mind…

Like a weary evening sailor
In search of light
Or the echo of his name
Beating in my heart…

Questions, reflections
Whispers of the core
A thirst to enlighten
Often bearing a toll…

I long to breathe in perpetuity
What tomorrow may betray
A precious moment in time
My everyday today…

Azure vastness at my feet
Compelling me to crave
Scarcely enough to tempt
Scantily enough to stay…

And as she swayed
Between the sheets of time
Dreaming of a scenic life
In dampened streets of rhyme…

Decade upon decade, hollow words spill
onto the ashen remains of intolerance and ill will
as if man’s disease, words alone might heal…

Morning calls like times of prayer
The billowy fog hugging a reticent horizon
Insistent on remaining unsheathed…

Spurned though never forgotten, those feline eyes,
blessed
 by the brushstrokes of Mother Nature,
sculpted by the artillery 
of man….

Scarcely enough to summon my gaze
she hovers —reticence short-lived,
her sun-dipped flesh begging to be seen…

Slicing through the last morsel of hope
kept alive but by the mercy
of the tempered silence…

If only I could pinpoint
That moment in time
When the flutter of spring
In my chest, in my mind…

Play me with abandon
Like Tchaikovsky’s violin
Tender. Fervent. Boundless.
My mind, my heart, my skin…

And as I sit
Fingertips licking the keyboard
Trying to weave from chaos
A harmonious truth…
