The Last Time I Cried

The last time I cried
I cried for you.
Tomorrow these glaciers
Destined for tears

Once more will succumb
To the pain of yesteryear
To upended careers
And unabated fears

To a moment of dread
Words left unsaid
Letters unread
And vile bloodshed.

They’ll kneel before darkness
Chaos, destruction
Victimized children
Abuse and abduction.

But the cascade of emotion
Deep within my heart
And venerable empathy
That tears me apart

The one you see now
That is safely ashore
Tranquil, at peace
Never again will be yours.
