Ravenous You & Insatiable Me
Enslaved, ravenous you
Bartering your soul at every turn.
Robotic, insatiable me
Unable to savor, unwilling to see.
Consenting, complicit we
Embracing a world of mediocrity.
Entranced by virtual promises
Essence lost, hours burned.
Yesteryear’s gems
Nevermore yearned:
Like the tip of a hat
Or a tale to unfurl.
Cordial conversations
In airports and quays
Those filling the void of dreaded delays
Today are replaced by an eerie silence
But for the dragging of wheels
Or moment of guidance.
We, eager combatants
Plowing through time
As if renewable
Not sublime.
We, grantors of our own license
To be further confined.
We, the lonely corner
In an over-adorned room
Or resounding echo
In one battered and torn
Sifting through pages
Of unabating noise.
Effacing the space
Within our gaze,
That ephemeral haze
We honored and saved.
No longer of service
No longer sustained.
Egos now branded
Onto our screens,
Our essence forlorn
As we float in a dream.
Impulsive, obsessed, complicit are we,
Embracing a life of complacency.
