Layers of You

Like sullied paper
in a crumbling room
or crabgrass invading
my current view,
peeling off the layers of you
at last, has become a task
no longer pursued.

From a pound of regret,
for every ounce I consumed,
I fashioned a tool
you may find of use.
A gift of surrender from me to you
for the long row to hoe
of forgetting me too.

“Layers of You” is part of the “Forget Me Nots” trilogy
