The Last Time I Cried

The last time I cried,
I cried for you.
Tomorrow these glaciers
Destined for tears

Once more will succumb
To unabated fear
Upended careers
And pain of yesteryear.

To moments of dread
Words left unsaid
Letters unread
And vile bloodshed.

They’ll kneel before darkness
Chaos, destruction
Victimized children
Abuse and abduction.

But the cascade of emotions
Deep within my heart
And venerable empathy
That tears me apart

The one you see now
That is safely ashore
Tranquil, at peace
Never again will be yours.

Greece, 2019 I took this photo of my sporty child who seemingly always dons an injury. As I type, two years later, she is wearing a cast on her other wrist after a snowboarding incident. Be that as it may, this little firecracker is unstoppable.
