Flirting With Pain

That dormant creature
residing within my soul,
lying in wait
for the next deception.

Stirring, yearning,
even flirting
to escape
the cage I built for her.

Vanquished by hunger
pain plots her escape,
to the midnight knock
on my door.

Dreaming, beaming, scheming
now just a breath away
from his grasp.

It won’t be long
for her to break free.
